Game Review & Description: One of the more notable titles from the early days of PC gaming, Slipstream 5000 is a fast and furious arcade racer that, although looking a bit dated by todays standards, holds some solid and addictive gameplay elements - which probably explains why it has undergone such a belated re-release on Zoo Digitals Classics budget range. Well before the likes of Wipeout and F-Zero, the game brought us the concept of a futuristic racing scenario, in which players take the controls of an assortment of flying craft. There are a total of 10 selectable pilots to choose from, before you enter into a gruelling 10-race season in the bid to become the ultimate Slipstreamer. The 10 tracks on offer are set across a wide variety of international locations and as such, you get to speed your way through such places as Egypt, Arizona and London. Its not all merely about skilful racing though, as the now familiar concept of weapons also plays a large role in the game. In the usual fashion, scattered throughout each level are a variety of useful collectibles, which can be used to your advantage against your myriad opponents. As mentioned before, compared to PC games of today, the game looks quite dated, due to its very early, software-based 3D technology. But, underneath lies an entertaining and very playable racer that was extremely popular in its day and still worth a look now.
