Game Review & Description: Much has been said about Marios ever-growing number of appearances on Nintendos first party software. For those hungry for a new Mario platformer, with none in view until next generation, it seems like a cheap, gimmicky trick. Others point out that if Nintendo are going to make a tennis/soccer/party game, then they might as well populate it with character models from their extensive library, which naturally includes the chubbsy plumber. Whatever your feelings, we dont like to point out that beggars cant be choosers in these lean days at the end of the Gamecube life cycle. So an action title with play for up to four players is nothing to be sniffed at. And given that were unlikely to see a game of Mario Cricket coming out (but just imagine it on the Revolution!), stick and ball fans might like to immerse themselves in a bit of Mario Baseball. The game features more than 50 characters from Mario World, so theres bound to be someone you like even if youd prefer real life players (though, for all we know about the sport, Koopa Troopa and Toad could actually play in the NBL). And all the characters are different, with specific power shots to be pulled off with each one. Naturally, a bit of cartoon license is taken with the realism as well. As well as the main game, you get a selection of minigames too, so if your purple Cube is beginning to look a little blue, this might be just the tonic.
